Is GMO food the solution to famine in the world?

Some people think if we could increase the production of food by modifying genetically what we cultivate, the hunger may disappear, but others don't agree with that and state the real solution is the equal distribution of the products we already have.

On the one hand, a group of scientists who investigated GMO food won a Nobel Prize because they got a higher amount of better qualified nourishment. They said that what they were producing was focused on making poor people's life better. This would be a great point to resolve this problem.

However, the real situation is the 80% of this modified products are being sold to developed countries. Even if they did it right, feeding developing countries, we couldn't assure this products won't be harmful for our health as it happened with tobacco.

As a conclusion, we should keep investigating GMO food so we could guarantee this project to be worthwhile, ending with the unfair distribution of resources in the world.
